UBC Ponderosa Commons, Ph I

34F Design's scope for Ponderosa Commons Phase I included specifications for all furniture in the East and West towers, including studios, collections, teaching spaces, residences, and common areas.

The East Tower includes the Art History and Visual Art department. A major challenge was code restrictions for divider walls, so all dividers in the space became furniture solutions. A Steelcase post-and-beam system was used as a skeleton for freestanding studio walls which could be refreshed for incoming art students each semester.

The West Tower includes UBC’s first Collegia - a membership driven private space. Collegia contains higher-end kitchen and living room spaces designed for commuter students to use like a residence while on campus. The West tower also includes Mercante Pizza restaurant, student residences, common spaces, and an equipped fitness area.
